Ear Pinning Surgery

What is Ear Surgery?

Prominent ears can be surgically re-positioned closer to the head. Frequently, this procedure is performed upon children if they are becoming self-conscious about the size or position of their ears. It is normally very important to allow the child to voice his or her opinion whether their ear size is troubling them.

Who is a Good Candidate for Ear Pinning?

Traditionally, this surgery is done when the child is six to seven years of age. However, more recently, this timetable has been moved up to age four to avoid issues with peers as the child enters school age.

In recent years, an increased number of adults now elect to have this surgery. The goal is to achieve a more balanced and natural look. However, complete, and perfect symmetry is not possible as there are inherent differences within an individual’s own ear tissues. Most patients are very pleased with the results and the improved appearance.

Complications are rare but must be thoroughly discussed and considered before you decide to have surgery.
